Threshold notes for aging bands
Aging bands are where executive audit dashboards become either honest or decorative. If every item sits in a gentle middle band, you have a colouring exercise. If bands are so harsh that half the register lights up weekly, executives learn to ignore the glow.
Begin with commitment dates, not calendar convenience. A remediation promised for 30 days should enter a watch band before day 30, not after the miss is already old news.
Write the rule where both sides can see it
Auditors and operators should be able to recite the same band definitions. Store them beside the financial auditing app view — not only in a slide appendix that dies after circulation.
In our Oversight Studio homework, teams document one exception: when a band may be paused (for example, a dependency on a regulator response). Pausing without a visible flag is how trust erodes.
Review bands quarterly. Markets move, control catalogues change, and last year’s “amber” may now be noise.
